Domori’s Criollo Chuao: the Best Italian Monovarietal Chocolate
This morning, during the Taste 2019 in Florence the award ceremony for "Tavolette d’Oro 2019" ( (Area Taste Ring, Monday March 11th, 11.30 am)
Florence, Monday March 11th, 2019 - Domori is the winner of the Tavoletta d’Oro 2019 Award in the Single Origin Category: the Compagnia del Cioccolato Association, the most important Italian organization of chocolate consumers, experts and supporters, decided to award the Tavoletta d'Oro prize to Domori’s Criollo Chuao 70% chocolate bar. The awards ceremony took place this morning in Florence during the 14th edition of Taste 2019, the Pitti Immagine fair focused on excellence in flavors and food.
As in all past editions, Domori is being recognized and awarded for its constant commitment to outstanding quality: the brand confirms to be a worldwide trendsetter of excellence among chocolate producers. Domori has raised the standard of what is being considered the new cocoa culture by implementing the use of the most effective and innovative methods of selection and production of different cocoa varieties. The Chuao Bar is considered a true iconic Criollo product: it distinguishes itself thanks to its notes of hazelnut, dulce de leche, lucuma and mamey. It has a light acidity, with great sweetness and roundedness.
The Chuao, praised by the most refined tasters as extraordinary, is a variety originally from the Chuao village, in the state of Aragua in Venezuela, an isolated and hard to reach location.
It is a very rare variety of cocoa and its purity, unfortunately, has been widely contaminated during the last century, especially within its plantations of origin. Since 2002, Domori cultivates pure Chuao in the Venezuelan plantation Hacienda San José, the largest Criollo plantation in the world.
Andrea Macchione, CEO of Domori, received the award during today's ceremony at the Taste Ring, within the Teatro dell'Opera in Florence; pride and satisfaction in his own words: “This year's award is a statement not only to Domori's quality but to its history, which is inextricably linked to Criollo. The Chuao awarded today is a reflection of our tireless research for the highest quality and purity of the raw material, a value that is fundamental to us and that has made us competitive worldwide. "
The Tavolette d'Oro are considered the Oscar Awards of Italian quality chocolate, reaching now their 17th edition. Every year the Association Compagnia del Cioccolato finalizes its assessment with the sole purpose of certifying the best Italian chocolates in different categories: milk /milk with a high cocoa percentage, gianduja, dark and monovarietals, aromatized/spicy chocolate, pralines, chocolate covered fruits, spreads, cremini, Modica chocolate, and the Tavolette speciali awarded to the following specific categories: upcoming chocolatier, international chocolatier, chocolate cocktail.
